Beginning in Fall 2004, Performance Majors who are taking their third or fourth semester level private lesson will be enrolled in a fifty minute private lesson. Students who wish to declare a Major in Performance must first sign up for and complete a Performance Major Application Audition/Interview. In order to be eligible for the Performance Major, students must be enrolled and in good standing in a private lesson, an ensemble, and an ear training class in their semester of application. Students who are interested in declaring a Major in Performance should contact their Instrumental/Voice Department Chair. |
1. Visit your Department Chair and get a Performance Major Application 2. Go to the Professional Performance Division (PPD) Office (fifth floor of 1140 building) and ask for a proposed student program report (PSPR). 3. Sign up for an Ensemble Audition. 4. Revisit your Department Chair who will give a Declaration/Change of Major Form to you upon completion of the application. You should have your PSPR available for review. 5. Bring the declaration form to the PPD Office for signature by the Chair of the Performance Major. Then bring the declaration to the Counseling Center, or PPD can route it via interoffice mail. Due to the new longer lessons for Performance Majors in semesters 3 & 4, some Performance Concentrate requirements are changed. Beginning in 04FA, students who place beyond semester level 3 and/or 4 private instruction must fulfill those credits (one credit for PFXX-231 and one credit for PFXX-232) by completing Approved Specified Electives (ASE's). Beginning in 04FA, PFET-361, 362, 364, 365, 367, 368, 370, 371, 373, 374, 376 & 377 are ASE's. These are one-credit courses. Also, PSX-492, Professional Performance Internship, will continue to be an ASE. This is a two-credit course. The following are some examples of student academic records and possible ways to fulfill the Performance Concentrate requirements: • 3rd semester students entering the PERF Major take the longer lesson. No ASE’s are required (although they can certainly be recommended). • 4th semester students entering the PERF Major take the longer level 4 PERF lesson (PFXX-232). A one-credit ASE, PFET 1, must also be completed in order to fulfill the Performance Concentrate. • 5th semester students entering the PERF Major take the PIXX-311 & RPXX-312 lessons. Two credits of ASE’s, either PFET 1 & 2 (at one credit apiece) or PSX-492 (at 2 credits), must be completed in order to fulfill the Performance Concentrate. Also, do not to wait until your final semester of study to complete the ASE’s |
